BioCADDIE Working Group releases v1 of Metadata Specifications

October 2, 2015

bioCADDIE logoThe biomedical and healthCAre Data Discovery Index Ecosystem, or bioCADDIE, has been working to define a set of metadata specifications that support intended capabilities of the NIH BD2K Data Discovery Index (DDI) prototype, which is now being designed by the bioCADDIE Core Development Team. Now bioCADDIE's Working Group 3: Descriptive Metadata for Datasets has released the first version of these metadata specifications for public comment.

This model will be first implemented and tested (in an evaluation phase) with a number of different data sources. Use cases and competency questions will be used to throughout to define the appropriate boundaries and level of granularity. These steps will be taken to prepare the model for future extensions and special metadata types.

This WG operates as a joint activity between NIH BD2K bioCADDIE and CEDAR centres and as part of the NIH Commons ecosystem. It is also complementary to the wider BD2K Metadata WG, co-chaired by Mark Musen (CEDAR) and George Alter (bioCADDIE). Whilst bioCADDIE focuses on (metadata for) searches, CEDAR focuses on defining common metadata standards.
